To apply for a Spouse KITAS, the foreign spouse must

  • Be legally married to an Indonesian citizen

  • Have an official marriage certificate approved by the Indonesian government.

Process of Obtaining Spouse KITAS

Step 1 – VITAS Approval

a) Submit these documents: valid passport and photocopy of passport, marriage certificate, photocopy of identity and family card of your Indonesian spouse with “married” status, photocopy of your spouse's latest Indonesian bank account, and a sponsor letter from the Indonesian spouse.
b) Apply for a Telex visa as a VITAS (Limited Stay Visa). The VITAS approval is then issued by the Indonesian Immigration Office in Jakarta and telexed to Indonesian embassies abroad, which takes about 5 working days. c) Pick up VITAS directly at the Indonesian embassy in your home country before coming to Indonesia.

Step 2 – Converting your VITAS to a KITAS Once you arrive in Indonesia

2. Convert VITAS to KITAS Once you arrive in Indonesia, you have seven days to convert your VITAS into a KITAS. You are not allowed to leave Indonesia in the middle of the process, or your VITAS will become invalid. The KITAS is initially valid for 6 months to 12 months and must be renewed every 6 or 12 months thereafter, with a maximum validity period of 5 years.

Step 3 – Civil Registration & Reporting

The Spouse KITAS holder must register at the civil registry office within 14 days after the issuance of the KITAS, to obtain a SKSKPS (Certificate of Temporary Resident Family Composition) and STM (Report Certificate).
